Don't Settle - Not with Food, Love or your Career

A lot of us settle. Sometimes without even being conscious of it. We throw it under the umbrella of being compromising or mutable. It's not though. It's settling. We settle in our relationships, our careers, with our friends, and even with complete strangers - the person that snakes you for a parking spot, the neighbor that doesn't hold the door/elevator, etc. Many of us settle so much, we judge and loathe those that set and stand firm on their boundaries - calling them selfish, unreasonable, and egoistic. Some of this may sound familiar. But what I bet many of us...

Picture pacifying yourself with ambiguous dreams and mediocre sex Close your eyes and conjure the memory of our ancestors' offerings of flesh in exchange for new and improved slavery broken down in 40 hour weeks, paid out in bi-weekly freedom papers that are now green and house the faces of our former torturers. I mean dictators. Sorry, Presidents. Dollars and cents. Imagine lying to yourself Attempting to silence the god in you to pray to the god created by slave masters. Imagine thinking your path to heaven was through a man, dressed as a pimp, renamed as pastor. Picture upgrading your shackles to shiny gold...
